Star Trek Into Darkness

Release date: April 23, 2013 (Sydney, Australia)

[Class M Planet Nibiru]

(Red-leaved jungle and water. Animal sounds. A figure running along a causeway away from a structure, chased by yellow headed figures shouting in alien. A big creature rears up in front of him, and he shoots it with a phaser. Another man shouts at him.)
MCCOY: Damn it, man, that was our ride! You stunned our ride!
KIRK: Oh, great.
(The pursuers are approaching.)
KIRK: Run!
(They do. A chaser pulls off his yellow scarf to reveal he has a white mud-caked face.)
MCCOY: What the hell did you take?
KIRK: I've no idea, but they were bowing to it. Kirk to Shuttle one. Locals are out of the kill zone. You are clear. Repeat. Spock, get in there, neutralise the volcano and let's get out of here.
(That will be the enormous erupting volcano nearly.)

[Shuttle]

We have to do this now. I told the Captain the shuttle wasn't built for this kind of heat.
(Uhura is fastening Spock's spacesuit.)
SPOCK: Captain, did the indigenous lifeforms see you?

[Planet]

KIRK: No, Mister Spock, they did not.

[Shuttle]

SPOCK: The Prime Directive clearly states there can be no interference with the internal developments of alien civilisations.

[Planet]

KIRK: I know what it says, which is why I'm running through the jungle wearing a disguise. Now drop off your super ice cube and let's go. Kirk out.

[Shuttle]

UHURA: You're good.
SULU: If we're going to do this, we've got to do it now. This ash is killing our coils.
UHURA: You're sure you don't want me to go instead?
SPOCK: That would be highly illogical as I am already outfitted
UHURA: Spock, I was kidding. (She kisses his helmet.) You got this.
SULU: Guys! We have to go. Now!

[Planet]

(Spears are being thrown.)
MCCOY: They're trying to kill us! They're trying to kill us, Jim!

[Shuttle]

UHURA: I'll see you in ninety seconds.
(She goes into the cockpit and closes the bulkhead door.)
SULU: Do it. Do it.
(Uhura pushes the lever that drops Spock on a cable into the smoking crater.)
SPOCK [OC]: Prerequisite change, two seven three
(The shuttle's engines stutter in the thick smoke. Engine overheating.)
SULU: I can't hold this position. Spock, I've got to pull you back up.

[Volcano]

SPOCK: Negative. This is our only chance to save this species. If this volcano erupts, the planet dies.

[Shuttle]

(Magma hits the shuttle.)
SULU: Pull him back up! Now!
(Uhura pulls the lever, but the cable is burnt by lava and breaks.)

[Volcano]

(Spock lands hard on rocks.)
UHURA [OC]: Spock, are you okay?
SPOCK: I am, surprisingly, alive. Stand by.

[Shuttle]

UHURA: We have to get him back. I'll suit up. I'm gonna go down.
SULU: We have to abandon the shuttle.
UHURA: We can't just leave him, Sulu.
SULU: We don't have a choice. Uhura, I'm sorry.
UHURA: Spock, we're going back to the Enterprise. We'll get you out of there.
SULU: Captain, I'm ditching the shuttle. You've got to make it to the Enterprise on your own.
KIRK [OC]: Wonderful.
SULU: Uhura, you ready to swim?
UHURA: I'm ready.

[Planet]

MCCOY: Jim! Jim, the beach is that way.
(Kirk hangs the stolen scroll, as it turns out, on a branch.)
KIRK: I know. We're not going to the beach.
MCCOY: Oh, no, no, no!
(Their pursuers stop to worship the scroll.)
MCCOY: I hate this!
KIRK: I know you do.
(They run off a tall cliff and plummet into the luckily deep waters avoiding the rocks. Motors in their boots propel them to a submerged spaceship with registration NCC-1701, where they enter a airlock.)

[Airlock]

(It drains amazingly quickly and the doors open.)
SCOTT: Do you have any idea how ridiculous it is to hide a starship on the bottom of the ocean? We've been doon here since last night. The salt water's going to ruin the
KIRK: Scotty, where's Spock?
SCOTT: Still in the volcano, sir.
(Spock is setting his 'ice cube' when magma is violently ejected from the volcano, destroying the native's temple.)

[Bridge]

(Kirk, McCoy (the cast list calls him Bones, how rude) and Scott run in.)
CHEKOV: Captain on the bridge!
KIRK: Lieutenant, do we have an open channel to Mister Spock?
UHURA: The heat's frying his comms, but we still have contact.
KIRK: Spock?

[Volcano]

SPOCK: I have activated the device, Captain. When the countdown is complete, the reaction should render the volcano inert.

[Bridge]

MCCOY: Yeah, and that's going to render him inert.
KIRK: Do we have use of the transporters?
SULU: Negative, sir.
CHEKOV: Not with these magnetic fields.
KIRK: I need to beam Spock back to the ship.
(Scott starts as a near-transparent giant fish swims past the screen.)
KIRK: Give me one way to do it.
CHEKOV: Maybe if we had a direct line of sight. If we got closer.
SCOTT: Hold on, wee man. You're talking about an active volcano. Sir, if that thing erupts, I cannae guarantee we can withstand the heat.
SULU: I don't know if we can maintain that kind of  altitude.

[Volcano]

SPOCK: Our shuttle was concealed by the ash cloud, but the Enterprise is too large. If utilised in a rescue effort, it would be revealed to the indigenous species.

[Bridge]

KIRK: Spock, nobody knows rules better than you, but there has got to be an exception.
SPOCK [OC]: None.

[Volcano]

SPOCK: Such action violates the Prime Directive.

[Bridge]

MCCOY: Shut up, Spock. We're trying to save you, damn it.

[Volcano]

SPOCK: Doctor, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

[Bridge]

KIRK: Spock, we're talking about your life!
SPOCK [OC]: The rule cannot be broken (signal breaks up)
KIRK: Spock! Try to get him back online.
CHEKOV: Ninety seconds to detonations.
KIRK: If Spock were here and I were there, what would he do?
MCCOY: He'd let you die.
(Down on the planet, Spock calmly prepares for his fate. Natives watch the Enterprise leave the ocean and fly to the volcano with under eight seconds left. They beam Spock away in the nick of time. In the crater, the lava is turned to basalt in mid-eruption.)

[Transporter room]

KIRK: Spock! You all right?
SPOCK: Captain, you let us see our ship.
MCCOY: Oh, he's fine.
UHURA [OC]: Bridge to Captain Kirk.
KIRK: Yes, Lieutenant.

[Bridge]

UHURA: Is Commander Spock on board, sir?
KIRK [OC]: Safely and soundly.
UHURA: Please notify him that his device

[Transporter room]

UHURA [OC]: Has successfully detonated.

[Bridge]

KIRK [OC]: You hear that? Congratulations, Spock.

[Transporter room]

KIRK: You just saved the world.
SPOCK: You violated the Prime Directive.
KIRK: Oh, come on, Spock. They saw us. Big deal.
(On the planet, the natives are drawing an image of the Enterprise in the red earth.)

LONDON 2259.55

(An alarm clock beeps at 5:00 and a dog reinforces the wake-up call. The couple - Thomas and Rima Harewood - get up and drive in silence to the Royal Children's Hospital in the rolling countryside. They are met by a doctor before going to a little girl's room and swapping her knitted rabbit for a clean one. Everyone say Hi! to Noel Clarke aka Micky Smith, Rose Tyler's boyfriend in nuWho.)

[Terrace]

(A man approaches the father.)
HARRISON: I can save her.
THOMAS: What did you say?
HARRISON: Your daughter. I can save her.
THOMAS: Who are you?

[Kirk's apartment]

(An old-style turntable leaps into life and wakes up the sleepers. A communicator beeps.)
WOMAN 1: Oh Jim, let it go. Jim!
(A second identical female with a long tail sits up.)
WOMAN 2: You're not actually going to answer that, are you?

SAN FRANCISCO STARFLEET HQ

[Plaza]

KIRK: Spock, I'm telling you, this is why he called. I can feel it.
SPOCK: Your feeling aside, I think it highly unlikely we will be selected for the new programme.
KIRK: Why else would Pike want to see us? Forget about seniority. They gave us the newest ship in the fleet. Who else are they going to send out?
SPOCK: I can think of numerous possibilities.
KIRK: A five year mission, Spock. That's deep space. That's uncharted territory. Think how incredible that's going to be. Hey, ladies. Jim Kirk.

[Pike's office]

PIKE: Uneventful
KIRK: Admiral?
PIKE: It's the way you described the survey of Nibiru in your captain's log.
KIRK: Yes, sir. I wanted to waste your time going over the details.
PIKE: Tell me more about this volcano. Data says it was highly volatile. If it were to erupt, it would wipe out the planet.
KIRK: Let's hope it doesn't, sir.
PIKE: Something tells me it won't.
KIRK: Er, well, sir, volatile is all relative. Maybe our data was off
PIKE: Or maybe it didn't erupt because Mister Spock detonated a cold fusion device inside it right after a civilisation that's barely invented the wheel happened to see a starship rising out of their ocean. That is pretty much how you describe it, is it not?
SPOCK: Admiral
KIRK: You filed a report? Why didn't you tell me?
SPOCK: I incorrectly assumed that you would be truthful in your captain's log.
KIRK: Yeah, I would have been if I didn't have to save your life.
SPOCK: A fact for which I am immeasurably grateful, and the very reason I felt it necessary to take responsibility for the actions that
KIRK: Take responsibility, yeah. That'd be so noble, pointy, if you weren't also throwing me under the bus.
SPOCK: Pointy? Is that a derogatory reference to
PIKE: Gentlemen. Starfleet's mandate is to explore and observe, not to interfere.
SPOCK: Had the mission had gone according to plan, Admiral, the indigenous species would never have been aware of our interference.
PIKE: That's a technicality.
SPOCK: I am Vulcan, sir. We embrace technicality.
PIKE: Are you giving me attitude, Spock?
SPOCK: I am expressing multiple attitudes simultaneously, sir. To which are you referring?
PIKE: Out. You're dismissed, Commander.
(Spock leaves.)
PIKE: You have any idea what a pain in the ass you are?
KIRK: I think so, sir.
PIKE: So tell me what you did wrong. What's the lesson to be learned here?
KIRK: Never trust a Vulcan.
PIKE: Now, see, you can't even answer the question. You lied. On an official report, you lied. You think the rules don't apply to you because you disagree with them.
KIRK: That's why you talked me into signing up in the first place. It's why you gave me your ship.
PIKE: I gave you my ship because I saw a greatness in you. And now, I see you haven't got an ounce of humility.
KIRK: What was I supposed to do, let Spock die?
PIKE: You're missing the point.
KIRK: I don't think I am, sir. What would you have done?
PIKE: I wouldn't have risked my First Officer's life in the first place. You were supposed to survey a planet, not alter it's destiny. You violated a dozen Starfleet regulations and almost got everyone under your command killed.
KIRK: Except I didn't. You know how many crew members I've lost since I took command?
PIKE: That's your problem. You think you're infallible.
KIRK: Not one. Not one.
PIKE: You think you can't make a mistake. It's a pattern with you. The rules are for other people.
KIRK: Some should be.
PIKE: And what's worse is you're using blind luck to justify your playing God. Given the circumstances, this has been brought to Admiral Marcus's attention. He convened a special tribunal,
to which I was not invited. You understand what Starfleet regulations mandate be done at this point. They've taken the Enterprise away from you. They're sending you back to the Academy.
KIRK: Admiral, listen.
PIKE: No, I'm not going to listen. Why should I listen? You don't listen to anybody but yourself.
KIRK: I understand regulation, but every decision I've made
PIKE: No, I can't listen. You don't comply with the rules, you don't take responsibility for anything, and you don't respect the chair. You know why? Because you're not ready for it.

(Back in London, Harrison has prepared a serum in his lab. Thomas Harewood puts it in his daughter's treatment machine under cover of night, while his wife sleeps by the bedside. Lucille Harewood's vital signs move from the red to the green. Thomas - who wears a Starfleet insignia - goes to the Kelvin Memorial Archive. Harrison watches from across the street. Thomas goes down to level B10.)

[Level B10]

(Construction work seems to be going on.)
WOMAN [OC]: I'm going to need three titanium
COMPUTER: Radiation protection is required in this area.
(Thomas takes his place at his station, which has lots of keyboards and a joystick, and sends message 15.92 to Admiral A Marcus. Then he drops his signet ring into a glass of water, where it dissolves. The whole building goes KaBOOM!)

[Bar]

(
Blues music plays. Alcohol is poured onto an ice cube in a shot glass. Kirk drinks it, then smiles at the lady next to him. He is about to make his move when Pike sits between them)
KIRK: How did you find me?
PIKE: I know you better than you think I do. The first time I found you was in a dive like this. Remember that? You got your ass handed to you.
KIRK: No, I didn't.
PIKE: You don't.?
KIRK: No, that's not what happened.
PIKE: That was an epic beating.
KIRK: No, it wasn't.
PIKE: You had napkins hanging out of your nose. Did you not?
KIRK: Yeah, that was a good fight.
PIKE: A good fight. I think that's your problem right there. They gave her back to me. The Enterprise.
KIRK: Congratulations. Watch your back with that First Officer, though.
PIKE: Spock's not going to be working with me. He's been transferred. USS Bradbury. You're going to be my First Officer. Yeah, Marcus took some convincing. But every now and then I can make a good case.
KIRK: What did you tell him?
PIKE: The truth. That I believe in you. That if anybody deserves a second chance, it's Jim Kirk.
KIRK: I don't know what to say.
PIKE: That is a first. It's going to be okay, son.
(Pike's communicator beeps. He reads the text.)
PIKE: Emergency session, Daystrom. That's us.
KIRK: Yeah.
PIKE: Suit up.

[Starfleet HQ]

COMPUTER: All personnel are advised new security protocols are in effect.
SPOCK: Captain.
KIRK: Not any more, Spock. I'm First Officer.
(They get into the lift and go up.)
KIRK: I was demoted and you were reassigned.
SPOCK: It is fortunate that the consequences were not more severe.
KIRK: Oh, you got to be kidding me.
SPOCK: Captain, it was never my intention
KIRK: Not Captain. I saved your life, Spock. You wrote a report, I lost my ship.
(They leave the lift.)
SPOCK: Commander, I see now I should have alerted you to the fact that I submitted the report.
KIRK: I'm familiar with your compulsion to follow the rules, but you see, I can't do that. Where I come from, if someone saves your life, you don't stab him in the back.
SPOCK: Vulcans cannot lie.
KIRK: Then I'm talking to the half-human part of you. All right? Do you understand why I went back for you?
ABBOTT: Commander Spock? Frank Abbott, USS Bradbury. Guess you're with me.
SPOCK: Yes, Captain.
(Abbott leaves.)
KIRK: The truth is, I'm going to miss you.
(Spock cannot reply, Kirk walks away.)

[Daystrom conference room]

(Around a round table.)
MARCUS: Thank you for convening on such short notice. Be seated. By now, some of you have heard what happened in London. The target was a Starfleet data archive. Now it's a damned hole in the ground. Forty two men and women are dead. One hour ago, I received a message from a Starfleet officer who confessed to carrying out this attack, that he was being forced to do it by this man, Commander John Harrison. He's one of our own. And he is the man responsible for this act of savagery. For unknown reasons, John Harrison has just declared a one man war against Starfleet. And under no circumstances are we to allow this man to escape Federation space. You here tonight represent the senior command of all the vessels in the region. And in the name of those we lost, you will run this bastard down. This is a manhunt, pure and simple, so let's get to work. Earth's perimeter sensors have not detected any warp signatures leaving the system, so we know he can;t be far. You will park your ships in a blockade formation then deploy search vehicles and landing parties to run down every lead.
(Kirk is studying images from the bombing. He finds Harrison holding a case.)
MARCUS: This man has shown willingness to kill innocent people, so the rules of engagement are simple. If you come across this man and fear for your life or the lives of those nearby, you
are authorised to use deadly force on sight.
KIRK: What's in the bag?
PIKE: James, not now.
KIRK: It doesn't seem odd to you that he'd target an archive? It's like bombing a library.
MARCUS: Chris, everything okay there?
PIKE: Yes, sir. Mister Kirk is just acclimating to his new position as First Officer.
MARCUS: You got something to say, Kirk, say it. Tomorrow's too late.
KIRK: I'm fine, sir. My apologies.
MARCUS: Spit it out, son. Don't be shy.
KIRK: Why the archive? All that information is public record, and if he really wanted to damage Starfleet, this could just be the beginning.
MARCUS: The beginning of what, Mister Kirk?
KIRK: Sir, in the event of an attack, protocol mandates that senior command gather captains and first officers at Starfleet HQ, right here. In this room.
SPOCK: It is curious Harrison would commandeer a jumpship without warp capabilities
(A bright light appears outside.)
KIRK: Clear the room!
(Gunfire breaks the windows and everyone dives for cover.)
KIRK: No!
MARCUS: (into comms) We need an air defence team. Daystrom conference room.
(Armed guards run in and get shot down. Kirk runs and grabs a phaser rifle.)
KIRK: Go, go, go! Cover me!
(He runs around the corner to a side view of the attacking ship and opens fire, then hides behind a pillar when it turns on him. Kirk notices its engine intake is sucking in debris. Pike is shot and Spock gets him out. Kirk ties his rifle to a fire hose and throws it into the ship's intake. Eventually the hose runs out and the wall panel goes too, disabling the craft. Kirk sees Harrison beamed away before it cannons into the side of the building and goes down. Spock does a mind-meld on Pike, who dies before Kirk gets there. Kirk weeps. Harrison materialises in a high mountain cave.)

[Kirk's apartment]

(Communicator beeps.)
KIRK: Yeah?
SPOCK [OC]: Commander, Mister Scott has found something in the wreckage of Harrison's ship. He has asked to see us right away.

[Starfleet HQ Plaza]

SCOTT:  Captain! I found this in the crashed jumpship, sir. This is how the bastard got away.
KIRK: What do you mean?
SCOTT: It's a portable transwarp beaming device.
KIRK: Well, can you figure out where he went?
SCOTT: I already did, sir, and you're no gonna like it.
(Coordinates 43 89 26 05 on the device.)
SCOTT: He's gone to the one place we, we just can't go.

[Marcus' office]

(A meeting is in progress.)
MARCUS: Triple security
KIRK: Admiral, sir, he's not on Earth. He's on Qo’noS, sir. I request my command be reinstated and your permission to go after him.
MARCUS: Give us a minute.
(Meeting adjourns.)
MARCUS: Qo’noS.
KIRK: Yes, sir.
MARCUS: So Harrison's gone to the Klingon homeworld. ls he defecting?
KIRK: Er, we're not sure, sir.
SPOCK: He has taken refuge in the Ketha Province, a region uninhabited for decades.
KIRK: He's got to be hiding there, sir! He knows if we even go near Klingon space, it'd be all-out war. Starfleet can't go after him, but I can. Please, sir.
MARCUS: All-out war with the Klingons is inevitable, Mister Kirk. If you ask me, it's already begun. Since we first learned of their existence, the Klingon Empire has conquered and occupied
two planets that we know of and fired on our ships half a dozen times. They are coming our way. London was not an archive. it was a top-secret branch of Starfleet designated Section 31. They were developing defence technology and training our officers to gather intelligence on the Klingons and any other potential enemy who means to do us harm. Harrison was one of our top agents.
KIRK: Well, now he's a fugitive and I want to take him out.
MARCUS: Pike always said you were one of our best and brightest. You should have heard him defend you. He's the one who talked you into joining Starfleet, wasn't he?
KIRK: Yes, sir.
MARCUS: Did he ever tell you who talked him into joining? His death is on me. And yours can't be.
KIRK: Sir, please. All I
MARCUS: Mister Spock, you said the province where Harrison is hiding is uninhabited?
SPOCK: Affirmative, sir.
MARCUS: As part of our defensive strategy, 31 developed a new photon torpedo. (calls up hologram) Long range and untraceable, it would be invisible to Klingon sensors. I don't want you hurt, but I want to take him out. You park on the edge of the Neutral Zone, you lock onto Harrison's position, you fire, you kill him and you haul ass.
KIRK: Permission to reinstate Mister Spock as my First Officer.
MARCUS: Granted.

[Starfleet shuttle hangar]

MCCOY: Jim! Where were you?
KIRK: For what?
MCCOY: Your medical exam. Ten hours ago, you were in a damn firefight. Now it's my duty as ship's
KIRK: I'm fine, Bones.
MCCOY: The hell you are.
KIRK: I'm fine.

[Shuttle]

KIRK: Status report, Mister Spock.
SPOCK: The Enterprise should be ready for launch by the time we arrive.
KIRK: Good. Good.
SPOCK: Captain. Thank you for requesting my reinstatement.
KIRK: You're welcome.
(McCoy does the medical check-up from the seat behind Kirk.)
SPOCK: As I am again your First Officer, it is now my duty to strongly object to our mission parameters.
KIRK: Of course it is.
SPOCK: There is no Starfleet regulation that condemns a man to die without a trial, something you and Admiral Marcus are forgetting. Also, preemptively firing torpedoes at the Klingon homeworld goes against
KIRK: You yourself said the area's uninhabited. There's only going to be one casualty. And in case you weren't listening, our orders have nothing to do with Starfleet regulation.
MCCOY: Wait a minute. We're firing torpedoes at the Klingons?
SPOCK: Regulations aside, this action is morally wrong.
KIRK: Regulations aside, pulling your ass out of a volcano was morally right. And I didn't win any points for that.
MCCOY: Whoa, Jim, calm down.
KIRK: I'm not going to take ethics lessons from a robot!
SPOCK: Reverting to name-calling suggests that you are defensive and therefore find my opinion valid.
KIRK: I wasn't asking for your opinion. Bones, get that thing off my face.
SPOCK: Captain, our mission could start a war with the Klingons and it is, by its very definition, immoral. Perhaps you should take the requisite time to arrive at this conclusion for yourself.
CAROL: (a blonde woman, naturally) Captain Kirk. Science Officer Wallace. I've been assigned to the Enterprise by Admiral Marcus. These are my transfer orders.
SPOCK: You requested an additional science officer, Captain?
KIRK: I wish I had. (reads PADD) Lieutenant Carol Wallace. Doctorate in applied physics specialising in advanced weaponry.
SPOCK: Impressive credentials.
CAROL: Thank you.
SPOCK: But redundant now that I am back aboard the Enterprise.
KIRK: And yet, the more the merrier. Have a seat, Doctor.
CAROL: Thank you.
(She sits between Kirk and Spock.)
PILOT: Shuttle crew, stand by for lift off.

[Payload bay]

SCOTT: No! I'm not signing anything! Now, get these bloody things off my ship! Captain!
KIRK: ls there a problem, Mister Scott?
SCOTT: Aye, sir. I was just explaining to this gentleman that I cannae authorise any weapons on board this ship without knowing what's inside them.
SPOCK: Mister Scott raises yet another point that the
KIRK: Report to the bridge.
SPOCK: Captain.
(Spock leaves.)
KIRK: Mister Scott, I understand your concerns, but we need these torpedoes on board.
SCOTT: Due respect, sir, but photon torpedoes run on fuel. Now, I cannae detect the type of fuel that's in the compartments on these torpedoes because it's shielded. Now, I asked for the specifications, but he said
MAN: It's classified.
SCOTT: It's classified. So I said, no specs, no signature!
SULU: Captain. Flight check's complete. We're good to go, sir.
KIRK: Thank you, Mister Sulu.
SULU: Yes, sir.
SCOTT: Now if you'll excuse me, sir, I have a warp core to prime. (to alien sitting on another torpedo) Get down!
(Scott leaves.)
MCCOY: Jim, your vitals are way off.
KIRK: Report to the med bay. Scotty!

[Engineering]

KIRK: I need you to approve those weapons.
SCOTT: Do you know what this is, Captain?
KIRK: I don't have time for a lecture, Scotty.
SCOTT: Do you know what this is?
KIRK: Aye. it's a warp core.
SCOTT: It's a radioactive catastrophe waiting to happen. A subtle shift in magnetic output from, say, firing one or more of six dozen torpedoes with an unknown payload could set off a chain reaction which would kill every living thing on this ship. Letting those torpedoes on board the Enterprise is the last straw.
KIRK: What was the first straw?
SCOTT: What was the? There are plenty of straws. How about Starfleet confiscating my transwarp equation? And now some madman's using it to hop across the galaxy. Where'd you think he got it from?
KIRK: We have our orders, Scotty.
SCOTT: That's what scares me. This is clearly a military operation. ls that what we are now? Because I thought we were explorers.
KIRK: Sign for the torpedoes, that's an order.
SCOTT: Right, well, you leave me no choice but to resign my duties.
KIRK: Oh, come on, Scotty.
SCOTT: You're giving me no choice, sir. I will not stand by
KIRK: You're not giving me much of a choice. Will you just make an exception and sign
SCOTT: Do you accept my resignation or not?
KIRK: I do!
(Scott is taken aback.)
KIRK: I do. You are relieved, Mister Scott.
SCOTT: Jim, for the love of God, do not use those torpedoes.
(Scott hands his PADD to Kirk and walks away. The little alien also hands a PADD to Kirk, and they leave together.)
COMPUTER: Attention. Warp core anti-matter containment check in three minutes.

[Corridor]

UHURA: Captain. I'm so sorry about Admiral Pike.
KIRK: We all are.
UHURA: Are you okay?
KIRK: Fine, thank you, Lieutenant.

[Turbolift]

KIRK: Actually, Scotty just quit. And your boyfriend's second-guessing me every chance he gets. I'm sorry, that was inappropriate. It's just sometimes I want to rip the bangs off his head. You know, maybe it's me. I
UHURA: It's not you.
KIRK: It's not? Wait, are you guys, are you guys fighting?
UHURA: I'd rather not talk about it, sir.
KIRK: Oh, my God. What is that even like?

[Bridge]

KIRK: Your ears burning?
CHEKOV: Captain on the bridge!
SULU: Captain.
KIRK: Mister Chekov. You've been shadowing Mister Scott. You are familiar with the engineering systems of this ship?
CHEKOV: Affirmative, sir.
KIRK: Good. You're my new Chief. Go put on a red shirt.
CHEKOV: Aye, Captain.
KIRK: Retract all moorings, Mister Sulu.
SULU: Yes, sir.

[Spacedock]

COMPUTER: Docking clamps one, two, and three are released.
SULU [OC]: All moorings retracted.

[Bridge]

KIRK: Lieutenant Uhura, open a shipwide channel.
UHURA: Yes, sir.

[Engineering]

KIRK [OC]: Mister Chekov, how are we looking down there?
CHEKOV: All systems nominal, Captain.
KIRK [OC]: Copy that.
CHEKOV: Warp available at your command.
KIRK [OC]: Thank you, Mister Chekov.

[Bridge]

KIRK: All right. Let's ride.
SULU: Yes, sir.
(Enterprise goes to warp.)
UHURA: Channel open, sir.
KIRK: Attention, crew of the Enterprise. As most of you know, Christopher Pike, former captain of this ship and our friend, is dead. The man who killed him has fled our system and is hiding on the Klingon homeworld, somewhere he believes we are unwilling to go. We are on our way there now. Per Admiral Marcus, it is essential that our presence go undetected. Tensions between the Federation and the Klingon Empire have been high. Any provocation could lead to an all-out war. I will personally lead a landing party to an abandoned city on the surface of  Qo’noS where we will capture the fugitive, John Harrison, and return him to Earth so he can face judgement for his actions. All right. Let's go get this son of a bitch. Kirk out.
SPOCK: Captain, I believe you have made the right decision. if I can be of assistance, I would be happy to accompany you on the away team.
KIRK: You? Happy?
SPOCK: I was simply attempting to use your vernacular to convey an idea.
KIRK: Thank you, Mister Spock.

[Payload bay]

TANNOY: All personnel, prepare for the closing of payload bay doors.
(Carol Wallace is scanning one of the new torpedoes.)
CAROL: Mister Spock. You startled me.
SPOCK: What are you doing, Doctor?
CAROL: Verifying that the torpedo's internal
SPOCK: You misunderstand. What are you doing aboard this ship? There is no record of you being assigned to the Enterprise.
CAROL: Really? That must be some sort of mistake. My conclusion as well, Doctor Marcus. Except that you have lied about your identity. Wallace is the surname of your mother. I can only assume the Admiral is your father.
CAROL: Mister Spock. I'm aware that I have no right to ask this of you. But please, he cannot know that I'm here.
(Big jolt.)

[Bridge]

SULU: Engineering manually dropped us out of warp, sir.
KIRK: Mister Chekov, did you break my ship?

[Engineering]

CHEKOV: Sorry, sir. I don't know what happened. The core overheated. I had to activate emergency stop. It must be a coolant leak. I need time to find it.

[Bridge]

CHEKOV [OC]: Sorry, Captain.
KIRK: Damn it. Mister Sulu, time to our destination.
SULU: Twenty minutes, sir. That's twenty minutes in enemy space we weren't counting on.
KIRK: All right, wed better hop to it. Where's Spock?
SPOCK: Here, Captain.
KIRK: You're coming with me to Qo'noS. Lieutenant, how's your Klingon?
UHURA: it's rusty, but it's good. toHq, a'Niq?
KIRK: Good, you're coming too. This isn't going to be a problem, is it, you two working together?
UHURA: Absolutely not.
(Uhura walks away.)
SPOCK: Unclear.
KIRK: I'll meet you in the shuttle bay.
MCCOY: Jim, you're not actually going down there, are you? You don't rob a bank when the getaway car has a flat tyre.
(Kirk activates the intercom.)
KIRK: I'm sure Engineering will have us all patched up by the time we get back.

[Engineering]

KIRK [OC]: Isn't that right, Mister Chekov?
CHEKOV: Yes, Captain. I'll do my best, sir.

[Bridge]

KIRK: Mister Sulu, you have the conn. Once we're en route, I want you to transmit a targeted comm burst to Harrison's location. You tell him you have a bunch of real big torpedoes pointed at his head and if he doesn't play nice, you're not afraid to use them. ls that a problem?
SULU: No, sir. I've just never sat in the chair before.
KIRK: You're gonna do great.
MCCOY: (sotto) Jim, wait. You just sat that man down at a high stakes poker game with no cards and told him to bluff. Now Sulu's a good man, but he is no captain.
KIRK: (sotto) For the next two hours, he is. And enough with the metaphors, all right? That's an order. (normal) Mister Sulu, make sure that K'normian ship is ready to fly.
(Sulu sits in the big chair.)
SULU: Acting Captain Sulu to Shuttle Bay Two.

[Shuttle bay 2]

SULU [OC]: Please have the trade ship we confiscated during the Mudd incident last month fuelled and flight ready. Captain Kirk is en route to you now.
SPOCK: Ready to deploy, Captain.
KIRK: Lieutenants, lose the red shirts. You are K'normian arms dealers. Put those on.
HENDORFF: Sir?
KIRK: Look, if this thing goes south, there can be nothing tying us to Starfleet. Unless of course you want to start a war, Mister Hendorff.
HENDORFF: No, sir.
SECURITY: No, sir.
KIRK: Good. Me neither.

[Trade ship]

SPOCK: I am detecting a single life sign in the Ketha Province. Given the information provided by Mister Scott, this is most likely John Harrison.
KIRK: Mister Sulu, I think we found our man. You let him know you mean business.
SULU [OC]: Aye, Captain.

[Bridge]

SULU: Attention, John Harrison. This is Captain Hikaru Sulu of the USS Enterprise. A shuttle of highly trained officers is on its way to your location. If you do not surrender to them immediately, I will unleash the entire payload of advanced long-range torpedoes currently locked onto your location. You have two minutes to confirm your compliance. Refusal to do so will result in your obliteration. If you test me, you will fail.
MCCOY: Mister Sulu, remind me never to piss you off.

[Trade ship]

SPOCK: We will arrive at Harrison's location in three minutes, Captain. it is unlikely that he will come willingly. I calculate the odds of him attempting to kill us at 91 .6%.
KIRK: Fantastic.
UHURA: Good thing you don't care about dying.
SPOCK: I am sorry, Lieutenant. I could not hear what you said.
UHURA: Oh, I didn't say anything. Actually, I'd be happy to speak if you're willing to listen to me.
KIRK: Guys.
SPOCK: Lieutenant, I would prefer to discuss this in private.
UHURA: You'd prefer not to discuss this at all, that's
SPOCK: Our current circumstances...
KIRK: Are you, are you really gonna do this right now?
UHURA: What never seems to require your undivided focus. I'm sorry, Captain, just two seconds. Okay, is us. At that volcano, you didn't give a thought to us. What it would do to me if you died, Spock. You didn't feel anything. You didn't care. And I'm not the only one who's upset with you. The Captain is too.
KIRK: No. No, no. Don't drag me into this. She is right.
SPOCK: Your suggestion that I do not care about dying is incorrect. A sentient being's optimal chance at maximising their utility is a long and prosperous life.
UHURA: Great.
KIRK: Not exactly a love song, Spock.
SPOCK: You misunderstand. It is true I chose not to feel anything upon realising that my own life was ending. As Admiral Pike was dying, I joined with his consciousness and experienced what he felt at the moment of his passing. Anger. Confusion. Loneliness. Fear. I had experienced those feelings before, multiplied exponentially on the day my planet was destroyed. Such a feeling is something I choose never to experience again. Nyota, you mistake my choice not to feel as a reflection of my not caring. Well, I assure you, the truth is precisely the opposite.
(Boom!)
KIRK: What the hell was that?

[Bridge]

SULU: What happened? Where's their signal?
COMMS TECH: It cut out. I'm working to get them back.

[Trade ship]

SPOCK: We are being pursued by a D-4 class Klingon vessel.
KIRK: I thought this sector was abandoned!
UHURA: It must be a random patrol.
KIRK: Hold on!
SPOCK: This ship has no offensive capabilities.
KIRK: It's got us. Give me all six fuel cells.
SPOCK: Aye, Captain.
(Evasive manoeuvres through a ruined city while being fired at.)
KIRK: Damn it.
UHURA: They're closing fast, bearing two eight five.
KIRK: All right, there! There! We can lose them there.
SPOCK: If you are suggesting that we utilise the passage between the approaching structures, this ship will not fit.
KIRK: We'll fit.
SPOCK: Captain, we will not fit.
KIRK: We'll fit, we'll fit!
(The D4 skids to a halt before the gap as the trade ship bounces off the sides of the slit then comes out the other side.)
KIRK: l told you we'd fit.
SPOCK: l am not sure that qualifies.
KIRK: Any sign of them?
UHURA: No. Which worries me.
KIRK: We lost them.
UHURA: Or they're jamming our scanners.
KIRK: Or we lost them.
(They stop as three warships surround them and bark orders in Klingonese.)
UHURA: They're ordering us to land. Captain, they're gonna wanna know why we're here. And they're gonna torture us, question us, and they're gonna kill us.
KIRK: So we come out shooting.
UHURA: We're outnumbered, outgunned. There's no way we survive if we attack first. You brought me here because I speak Klingon. Then let me speak Klingon.
(The four ships land and Uhura goes out to meet the Klingons.)
KIRK: This isn't going to work.
SPOCK: It is our only logical option. And if you interrupt her now, you will not only incur the wrath of the Klingons, but that of Lieutenant Uhura as well.

[Qo'noS]

UHURA: (Klingonese) I am here to help you.

[Trade ship]

(Kirk breaks out hand phasers.)
KIRK: Lieutenant.
SECURITY: Thanks, Captain.

[Qo'noS]

UHURA: (Klingonese) With respect. There is a criminal hiding in these ruins. He has killed many of our people.
KLINGON:
(Klingonese) Why should I care about a human killing humans?
UHURA: (Klingonese) Because you care about honour. And this man has none. You and your people are in danger.
(The Klingon grabs Uhura and draws his knife. Some one starts shooting, Uhura grabs the knife and stabs the Klingon. A firefight ensues, then hand to hand. More troops are dropped from Klingon vessels. Kirk is saved by the mystery shooter and dragged away by Spock and Uhura, whose gun also brings down ships. It is Harrison. He finishes the rest of the Klingons with their own blades then approaches our heroes.)
SPOCK: Stand down.
HARRISON: How many torpedoes?
SPOCK: Stand down!
(The gun is shot out of Spock's hands.)
HARRISON: The torpedoes, the weapons you threatened me with in your message. How many are there?
SPOCK: Seventy two.
HARRISON: I surrender.
(He throws down his rifle and Spock picks it up.)
KIRK: On behalf of Christopher Pike, my friend, I accept your surrender.
(Kirk punches Harrison three times, but he does not fall. Not even knees to the stomach have an effect.)
UHURA: Captain!
HARRISON: Captain.
KIRK: Cuff him.

[Enterprise]

(Harrison is under heavy armed escort.)
KIRK: Bones, meet me in the brig.
MCCOY [OC]: Be right there.
KIRK: Lieutenant. Contact Starfleet. Let them know we have Harrison in custody, and we'll be on our way once the warp core is repaired.
UHURA: Yes, sir.
(Kirk leaves. Uhura and Spock kiss.)

[Brig]

(Far too much empty space here, as usual.)
MCCOY: Why the hell did he surrender?
KIRK: l don't know. But he just took out a squad of Klingons single-handedly. I want to know how.
MCCOY: Sounds like we have a superman on board.
KIRK: You tell me.
(McCoy moves a circular device to create a small opening in the cell forcefield.)
MCCOY: Put your arm through the hole. I'm going to take a blood sample.
(Harrison complies.)
HARRISON: Why aren't we moving, Captain? An unexpected malfunction, perhaps, in your warp core conveniently stranding you on the edge of Klingon space?
MCCOY: How the hell do you know that?
KIRK: Bones.
HARRISON: I think you'd find my insight valuable, Captain.
(The hole is closed.
KIRK: We good?
MCCOY: Yeah.
KIRK: Let me know what you find.
HARRISON: Ignore me and you will get everyone on this ship killed.
SPOCK: Captain, I believe he will only attempt to manipulate you. I would not recommend engaging the prisoner further.
KIRK: Give me a minute.
(Spock leaves.)
KIRK: Let me explain what's happening here. You are a criminal. I watched you murder innocent men and women. I was authorised to end you! And the only reason why you are still alive
is because I am allowing it. So shut your mouth.
HARRISON: Oh, Captain, are you going to punch me again over and over till your arm weakens? Clearly you want to, so tell me, why did you allow me to live?
KIRK: We all make mistakes.
HARRISON: No. I surrendered to you because, despite your attempt to convince me otherwise, you seem to have a conscience, Mister Kirk. If you did not, then it would be impossible for me
to convince you of the truth.  23-17-46-11. Coordinates not far from Earth. If you want to know why I did what I did, go and take a look.
KIRK: Give me one reason why I should listen to you.
HARRISON: I can give you seventy two, and they're on board your ship, Captain. They have been all along. I suggest you open one up.

[San Francisco Bar]

(Very noisy. Scott is conducting a one-way conversation with his small alien assistant, apparently called Keenser.)
SCOTT: You know what really bothers me, though? It's the modifications, you know? The enhancements. Right? And then like that, I'm off the ship! Just for trying to do what's right. And what  did you do anyway? You just stood there like an oyster, looking at me! (Comm beeps.) What?

[Enterprise]

KIRK: Scotty, it's Kirk.

[San Francisco Bar]

SCOTT: Oh, well now. If it isn't Captain James Tiberius Perfect Hair.

[Enterprise]

SCOTT [OC]: Did you hear that? I called him Perfect Hair.
KIRK: Where are you?
SCOTT [OC]: Where are you?
KIRK: Are you drunk?

[San Francisco Bar]

SCOTT: What I do in my private time is my business, Jimbo.
KIRK [OC]: I need you to help me out

[Enterprise]

KIRK: With something. Will you take these coordinates down? 23-17-46-11.

[San Francisco Bar]

KIRK [OC]: Are you writing?
SCOTT: What, you don't think I can remember four numbers? Ye of little faith. What was the third one?
KIRK [OC]: Forty six.

[Enterprise]

KIRK: I don't know exactly what you're looking for, but I've a feeling you'll know it when you see it. You may have been right about those torpedoes.

[San Francisco Bar]

SCOTT: I will consider that an apology. And I will consider that apology.

[Enterprise]

KIRK: You are the one who quit.

[San Francisco Bar]

SCOTT: You made me quit!

[Enterprise]

KIRK: Mister Scott? Scott.

[San Francisco Bar]

SCOTT: The nerve of that guy. I am not doing that man any favours. No! Och, all right, then.

[Bridge]

MCCOY: Are you out of your corn-fed mind? You're not actually going to listen to this guy? He killed Pike. He almost killed you. And now you think it's a good idea to pop open a torpedo
because he dared you to.
KIRK: Why did he save our lives, Bones?
SPOCK: The Doctor does have a point, Captain.
MCCOY: Don't agree with me, Spock. It makes me very uncomfortable.
SPOCK: Perhaps you, too, should learn to govern your emotions, Doctor. In this situation, logic dictates
MCCOY: Logic? Oh, my God! There's a maniac trying to make us blow up our own damn ship and you talk about
KIRK: That's not it. I don't know why he surrendered, but that's not it. Look, we're going to open a torpedo. The question is how.
MCCOY: But Jim, without Mister Scott on board, who exactly is qualified to just pop open a four ton stick of dynamite?
SPOCK: The Admiral's daughter appeared to have interest in the torpedoes, and she is a weapons specialist. Perhaps she could be of some use.
KIRK: What Admiral's daughter?
SPOCK: Carol Marcus. Your new science officer concealed her identity to board the ship.
KIRK: When were you going to tell me that?
SPOCK: When it became relevant. As it just did.

[Corridor]

CAROL: Are the torpedoes in the weapons bay?
KIRK: Loaded and ready to fire. What are they?
CAROL: I don't know. That's why I forged my transfer onto your ship to find out why. I do apologise for that. By the way, if I caused you any problems, I am sorry. I'm Carol Marcus.
KIRK: James Kirk.
CAROL: Torpedoes.

[Weapons bay]

CAROL: My father gave me access to every program he oversaw, then I heard he was developing these prototype torpedoes. When I went to confront him about it, he wouldn't even see me. That's when I discovered the torpedoes had disappeared from all official records.
KIRK: And then he gave them to me.
CAROL: You're much cleverer than your reputation suggests, Captain Kirk.
KIRK: I have a reputation?

[Shuttle]

CAROL: Yes, you do. I'm a friend of Christine Chapel's.
KIRK: Christine, yes. How is she?
CAROL: She transferred to the outer frontier to be a nurse. She's much happier now.
KIRK: That's good.
CAROL: You have no idea who I'm talking about, do you?
KIRK: What are we doing in here?
CAROL: ls this shuttle prepped to fly?
KIRK: Of course it is.
CAROL: Would you please turn around?
KIRK: Why?
CAROL: Just turn around. It's too dangerous to try and open one of these torpedoes on the Enterprise. But there is a nearby planetoid. I can open one up there, but I will need some help.
(Carol has stripped to bra and panties.)
CAROL: Turn around. Now!

[Bridge]

SULU: Captain on the bridge.
KIRK: Mister Sulu, have Doctors Marcus and McCoy landed on the planetoid yet?
SULU: Yes, sir. They're moving the torpedo into position now.
KIRK: Good. Any activity from the Klingons?
SULU: Not yet. But if we're stuck here much longer, they will find us.
KIRK: Lieutenant Uhura, did you let Starfleet know we have Harrison in custody?
UHURA: Yes, sir. No response yet.
CHEKOV [OC]: Engineering to bridge. Hello. Captain, can you hear me?
KIRK: Mister Chekov, give me some good news.

[Engineering]

CHEKOV: We found the leak, sir, but the damage is substantial. We are working on it.
KIRK [OC]: Any idea what caused it?
CHEKOV: Er, no, sir. But I accept full responsibility.

[Bridge]

KIRK: Something tells me it wasn't your fault. Stay on it.
SULU: Shuttle is standing by, Captain.
KIRK: Bones, thanks for helping out. Doctor Marcus asked for the steadiest hands on the ship.

[Shuttle]

MCCOY: You know, when I dreamt about being stuck on a deserted planet with a gorgeous woman, there was no torpedo.
KIRK [OC]: Doctor McCoy, may I remind you, you are not there to flirt.

[Planetoid]

MCCOY: So how can these legendary hands help you, Doctor Marcus?
KIRK [OC]: Bones.
CAROL: To understand how powerful these weapons are, we need to open the warhead. To do that, we need to access the fuel compartment. Unfortunately for us, the warheads on these
weapons are live.
MCCOY: Sweetheart, I once performed an emergency C-section on a pregnant Gorn. Octuplets. And let me tell you, those little bastards bite. I think I can work some magic on your missile.
CAROL: Doctor McCoy, there's a bundle of fibre optic cables against the inner casing. You'll need to cut the twenty third wire down. Whatever you do, do not touch anything else. Do you understand?
MCCOY: Right. The thought never crossed my mind.
CAROL: Doctor McCoy, wait for my word. I'm rerouting the detonation processor. Are you ready?
MCCOY: And raring.
CAROL: Good luck.
(The hatch closes on McCoy's arm.)

[Bridge]

SULU: Sir, the torpedo just armed itself.
DARWIN: The warhead's gonna detonate in thirty seconds, sir!

[Planetoid]

MCCOY: What the hell happened? I can't get my arm out!

[Bridge]

KIRK: Target their signal. Beam them back right now.
SPOCK: The transporter cannot differentiate between Doctor McCoy and the torpedo. We cannot beam back one without the other.
KIRK: Doctor Marcus

[Planetoid]

KIRK [OC]: Can you disarm it?
CAROL: I'm trying. I'm trying.
MCCOY: Jim, get her the hell out of here.
CAROL: No! If you beam me back, he dies! Just let me do it!
MCCOY: Ten. Nine. Eight.

[Bridge]

SULU: Standing by to transport Doctor Marcus on your command, sir.

[Planetoid]

MCCOY: Four. Three.
CAROL: Shit!
(She rips out the whole mechanism. The torpedo opens at 2.57 seconds.)

[Bridge]

SPOCK: Deactivation successful, Captain.
KIRK: Doctor McCoy, are you all right?

[Planetoid]

KIRK [OC]: Bones!
MCCOY: Jim? You're going to want to see this.
(The torpedo is an occupied cryogenic chamber.)

[Shuttle]

(Scott flies to coordinates 23.17.46.11 where there is an artificial structure near one of Jupiter's moons.)
MAN [OC]: Delta team, deliver your thrusters to loading dock twelve.
MAN 2 [OC}: USS Vengeance bridge crew requesting entry to construction hangar.
MAN [OC]: You are cleared to enter the hangar.
(He flies inside the Spacedock.)
MAN 2: I need a welding team on the number one nacelle.
SCOTT: Holy sh

[Med bay]

KIRK: What have we got?
CAROL: It's quite clever actually. This fuel container's been removed from the torpedo and retrofitted to hide this cryo tube.
KIRK: ls he alive?
MCCOY: -He's alive. But if we try to revive him without the proper sequencing, it could kill him. This technology's beyond me.
SPOCK: How advanced, Doctor?
CAROL: It's not advanced. That cryo tube is ancient.
MCCOY: We haven't needed to freeze anyone since we developed warp capability, which explains the most interesting thing about our friend here. He's three hundred years old.

[Brig]

KIRK: Why is there a man in that torpedo?
HARRISON: There are men and women in all those torpedoes, Captain. I put them there.
KIRK: Who the hell are you?
HARRISON: A remnant of a time long past. Genetically engineered to be superior so as to lead others to peace in a world at war. But we were condemned as criminals, forced into exile. For centuries we slept, hoping when we awoke things would be different. But as a result of the destruction of Vulcan, your Starfleet began to aggressively search distant quadrants of space. My ship was found adrift. I alone was revived.
KIRK: I looked up John Harrison. Until a year ago, he didn't exist.
HARRISON: John Harrison was a fiction created the moment I was awoken by your Admiral Marcus to help him advance his cause. A smokescreen to conceal my true identity. My name is Khan.
KIRK: Why would a Starfleet Admiral ask a three hundred year old frozen man for help?
KHAN: Because I am better.
KIRK: At what?
KHAN: Everything. Alexander Marcus needed to respond to an uncivilised threat in a civilised time, and for that he needed a warrior's mind, my mind, to design weapons and warships.
SPOCK: You are suggesting the Admiral violated every regulation he vowed to uphold simply because he wanted to exploit your intellect.
KHAN: He wanted to exploit my savagery. Intellect alone is useless in a fight, Mister Spock. You, you can't even break a rule. How would you be expected to break bone? Marcus used me to design weapons, to help him realise his vision of a militarised Starfleet. He sent you to use those weapons. To fire my torpedoes on an unsuspecting planet. And then he purposely crippled your ship in enemy space, leading to one inevitable outcome. The Klingons would come searching for whomever was responsible, and you would have no chance of escape. Marcus would finally have the war he talked about. The war he always wanted.
KIRK: No. No. I watched you open fire in a room full of unarmed Starfleet officers. You killed them in cold blood!
KHAN: Marcus took my crew from me.
KIRK: You are a murderer!
KHAN: He used my friends to control me. I tried to smuggle them to safety by concealing them in the very weapons I had designed, but I was discovered. I had no choice but to escape alone. And when I did, I had every reason to suspect that Marcus had killed every single one of the people I hold most dear. So I responded in kind. My crew is my family, Kirk. ls there anything you would not do for your family?
SULU [OC]: Proximity alert, sir. There's a ship at warp heading right for us.
KIRK: Klingons?
KHAN: At warp? No, Kirk. We both know who it is.
SULU [OC]: l don't think so. It's not coming at us from Qo'noS.
(Kirk runs out, giving an order to the Security officer.)
KIRK: Lieutenant, move Khan to med bay. Post six security officers on him.
SECURITY: Yes, Captain.

[Bridge]

SULU: Captain on the bridge.
KIRK: ETA of the incoming ship.
SULU: Three seconds, sir.
KIRK: Shields.
SULU: Aye, Captain.
(A massive starship drops out of warp right in front of the Enterprise.)
UHURA: They're hailing us, sir.
KIRK: On screen. Broadcast shipwide, for the record.
MARCUS [on viewscreen]: Captain Kirk.
KIRK: Admiral Marcus. I wasn't expecting you. That's a hell of a ship you got there.
MARCUS [on viewscreen]: And I wasn't expecting to get word that you'd taken Harrison into custody in violation of your orders.
KIRK: Well, we er, we had to improvise when our warp core unexpectedly malfunctioned. But you already knew that, didn't you, sir?
MARCUS [on viewscreen]: I don't take your meaning.
KIRK: Well, that's why you're here, isn't it? To assist with our repairs? Why else would the head of Starfleet personally come to the edge of the Neutral Zone?
SULU: Captain, they're scanning our ship.
KIRK: ls there something I can help you find, sir?
MARCUS [on viewscreen]: Where is your prisoner, Kirk?
KIRK: Per Starfleet regulation, I'm planning on returning Khan to Earth to stand trial.

[USS Vengeance Bridge / Bridge]

(We're never told on screen what this behemoth is called, so I looked it up.)
MARCUS: Well, shit. You talked to him. This is exactly what I was hoping to spare you from. I took a tactical risk and I woke that bastard up, believing that his superior intelligence could help us protect ourselves from whatever came at us next. But I made a mistake, and now the blood of everybody he's killed is on my hands. So I'm asking you, give him to me so that I can end what I started.

[Bridge / USS Vengeance Bridge]

KIRK: And what exactly would you like me to do with the rest of his crew, sir? Fire them at the Klingons? End seventy two lives? Start a war in the process?
MARCUS: He put those people in those torpedoes. And I simply didn't want to burden you with knowing what was inside of them. You saw what this man can do all by himself. Can you imagine what would happen if we woke up the rest of his crew? What else did he tell you? That he's a peacekeeper? He's playing you, son, don't you see that? Khan and his crew were condemned to death as war criminals. And now it is our duty to carry out that sentence before anybody else dies because of him. Now, I'm going to ask you again. One last time, son. Lower your shields. Tell me where he is.
KIRK: He's in engineering, sir. But I'll have him moved to the transporter room right away.
MARCUS: I'll take it from here.
(Transmission terminated.)

[Bridge]

KIRK: Do not drop those shields, Mister Sulu.
SULU: Aye, Captain.
SPOCK: Captain, given your awareness of Khan's true location in the med bay, may I know the details of your plan?
KIRK: I told Marcus we were bringing a fugitive back to Earth. That's what we're going to do. Mister Chekov, can we warp?

[Engineering]

CHEKOV: Sir, if we go to warp, we run the risk of seriously damaging the core.
KIRK [OC]: Can we do it?
CHEKOV: Technically, yes, but I would not advise it, Captain.

[Bridge]

KIRK: Noted. Mister Sulu, set course for Earth.
SULU: Yes, sir.
KIRK: Punch it.

[Med bay]

MCCOY: Well, at least we're moving again.
(McCoy scans Khan.)
KHAN: If you think you're safe at warp, you're wrong.
(Carol runs out.)

[Bridge]

KIRK: Lieutenant Uhura, contact Starfleet. Tell them we were pursued into the Neutral Zone by an unmarked Federation ship.
UHURA: Comms are down, sir.
CAROL: Permission to come on the bridge.
KIRK: Doctor Marcus.
CAROL: He's gonna catch up with us, and when he does, the only thing that's going to stop him destroying this ship is me, so you have to let me talk to him.
KIRK: Carol, we're at warp. He can't catch up with us.
CAROL: Yes, he can. He's been developing a ship that has advanced warp capabilities, and I
SULU: Captain! I'm getting a reading I don't understand.
(Vengeance is chasing Enterprise through the slipstream, sorry, warp space. Weapons are fired, causing a hull breach in Enterprise's starboard side. Then the nacelles are hit and Enterprise drops out of warp.)
KIRK: Where are we?
SULU: We're two hundred thirty seven thousand kilometres from Earth.
(Well inside lunar orbit.)
KIRK: Damage report!
SULU: Weapons are way down. Shields are dropping.
DARWIN: We're defenceless, sir.
OFFICER: Sir, we have a bulkhead breach.
KIRK: Where's the damage?
ANDROID: Major hull damage, Captain.
(Enterprise continues to take damage and casualties.)
KIRK: Evasive manoeuvres! Get us to Earth! Right now!
CAROL: Captain, stop! Everybody on this ship is going to die if you don't let me speak to him.
KIRK: Uhura, hail him.
CAROL: Sir. It's me. It's Carol.
MARCUS [on viewscreen]: What are you doing on that ship?
CAROL: I heard what you said. That you made a mistake and now you're doing everything you can to fix it. But Dad, I don't believe that the man who raised me is capable of destroying a ship full of innocent people. And, if I'm wrong about that, then you're gonna have to do it with me on board.
MARCUS [on viewscreen]: Actually, Carol, I won't.
(A transporter effect begins around her.)
CAROL: Oh! Oh! Jim.
KIRK: Can we intercept the transport signal?
(The transporter chief is played by James Doohan's son, but isn't given a script name. Tut.)
DOOHAN: No, sir.
(Carol screams and runs, and is beamed away.)
KIRK: Carol!
MARCUS [on viewscreen]: Captain Kirk, without authorisation and in league with the fugitive John Harrison, you went rogue in enemy territory, leaving me no choice but to hunt you down and destroy you. Lock phasers.
KIRK: Wait, sir. Wait, wait, wait!
MARCUS [on viewscreen]: I'll make this quick. Target all aft torpedoes on the Enterprise bridge.
KIRK: Sir, my crew was just, was just following my orders. I take, I take full responsibility for my actions. But they were mine and they were mine alone. If I transmit Khan's location to you now, all that I ask is that you spare them. Please, sir. I'll do anything you want. Just let them live.

[USS Vengeance Bridge]

MARCUS: That's a hell of an apology. But if it's any consolation, I was never going to spare your crew. Fire when

[Bridge]

(Transmission terminated.)
KIRK: I'm sorry.

[USS Vengeance Bridge]

WEAPONS OFFICER: Our weapons won't fire, sir!
HELM OFFICER: Our shields are down! We're losing power!
SCIENCE OFFICER: Someone in engineering just manually reset our systems!
MARCUS: What do you mean, someone? Who?

[Bridge]

SULU: Their weapons have powered down. Sir.
SCOTT [OC]: Enterprise! Can you hear me?
KIRK: Scotty!

[USS Vengeance / Bridge]

SCOTT: Guess what I found behind Jupiter.
KIRK: You're on that ship!
SCOTT: l snuck on. And seeing as I've just committed an act of treason against a Starfleet Admiral, I'd really like to get off this bloody ship. Now beam me out!
KIRK: You're a miracle worker. We're a little low on power right now. Just stand by. Stand by.
SCOTT: What do you mean, low on power? What happened to the Enterprise? Call you back.

[Bridge]

KIRK: Scotty! Spock. Our ship, how is she?
SPOCK: Our options are limited, Captain. We cannot fire and we cannot flee.
KIRK: There is one option. Uhura, when you get Scotty back, patch him through.
UHURA: Yes, sir.
KIRK: Mister Spock, you have the conn.

[Turbolift]

SPOCK: Captain, I strongly object.
KIRK: To what? I haven't said anything yet.
SPOCK: Since we cannot take the ship from the outside, the only way we can take it is from within. And as a large boarding party would be detected, it is optimal for you to take as few members of the crew as possible.

[Corridor]

SPOCK: You will meet resistance, requiring personnel with advanced combat abilities and innate knowledge of that ship. This indicates that you plan to align with Khan, the very man
we were sent here to destroy.
KIRK: I'm not aligning with him, I'm using him. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
SPOCK: An Arabic proverb attributed to a prince who was betrayed and decapitated by his own subjects.
KIRK: Still, it's a hell of a quote.
SPOCK: l will go with you, Captain.
KIRK: No, I need you on the bridge.
SPOCK: I cannot allow you to do this. It is my function aboard this ship to advise you on making the wisest decisions possible, something I firmly believe you are incapable of doing in this moment.
KIRK: You're right! What I'm about to do, it doesn't make any sense, it's not logical. it is a gut feeling. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I only know what I can do. The Enterprise and her crew need someone in that chair that knows what he's doing. And it's not me. It's you, Spock.

[Med bay]

KIRK: Tell me everything you know about that ship.
KHAN: Dreadnought class. Two times the size, three times the speed. Advanced weaponry. Modified for a minimal crew. Unlike most Federation vessels, it's built solely for combat.
KIRK: I will do everything I can to make you answer for what you did. But right now I need your help.
KHAN: In exchange for what?
KIRK: You said you'd do anything for your crew. l can guarantee their safety.
KHAN: Captain. You can't even guarantee the safety of your own crew.
KIRK: Bones, what are you doing with that tribble?
MCCOY: The tribble's dead. I'm injecting Khan's platelets into the deceased tissue of a necrotic host. Khan's cells regenerate like nothing I've ever seen, and I want to know why.
KIRK: You coming with me or not?

[USS Vengeance]

(Still running.)
SCOTT: You want to do what?

[USS Enterprise]

KIRK: We're coming over there. Sulu's manoeuvring the Enterprise into position as we speak.
SCOTT [OC]: To this ship? How?
KHAN: There's a cargo door, hangar seven, access port one oh one A. You need to find the manual override to open that airlock.
SCOTT [OC]: Are you crazy? Whoever you are.
KIRK: Just listen to him, Scotty. It's gonna be all right.

[USS Vengeance]

SCOTT: It is not gonna be all right. You want me to open an airlock into space, whereupon I will freeze, die and explode!

[Bridge]

SPOCK: Lieutenant, from our current position, is it possible to establish contact with New Vulcan?
UHURA: I'll do my best.
SPOCK: Thank you. Mister Sulu, what is the status of the other ship?
SULU: Their systems are still offline. I'm aligning our ship now.

[Trash exhaust / USS Vengeance]

KIRK: Scotty, how are we doing over there?
SCOTT: Captain, I wish I had better news. They've locked out access to the ship's computer. They'll have full weapons in three minutes. That means next time I won't be able to stop them destroying the Enterprise. Stand by.

[Bridge]

SULU: Commander, our trash exhaust is aimed at access port one oh one A of the other ship.
SPOCK: Captain, the ships are aligned.

[Trash exhaust]

KIRK: Copy that.

[USS Vengeance hangar]

KIRK [OC]: Scotty!
(Running the 800 metres.)
SCOTT: I'm in the hangar. Give me a minute. I'm running. Stand by. Whoa, whoa, hold on, now, Captain. This door is very wee. I mean, you know, small. It's four square metres, tops. It's gonna be like jumping out of a moving car, off a bridge, into your shot glass.

[Trash exhaust]

KIRK: It's okay. I've done it before. Yeah, it was vertical. We jumped onto a. It was a. It doesn't matter. Scotty
SPOCK: Did you find the manual override?
KIRK: The manual override, Scotty.

[USS Vengeance hangar]

SCOTT: Not yet, not yet.
(A bulkhead unlocks.)

[Bridge]

SPOCK: Captain, before you launch, you should be aware there is a considerable debris field between our ships.

[Trash exhaust]

KIRK: Spock, not now. Scotty, you good?

[USS Vengeance hangar]

SCOTT: It's not easy! Just give me two seconds, all right, you mad bastard! Tell me this is gonna work.
(Khan crouches, ready, then Kirk follows.)

[Bridge]

(McCoy crouches by the Captain's chair.)
MCCOY: Tell me this is gonna work.
SPOCK: I have neither the information nor the confidence to do so, Doctor.
SCOTT [OC]: Okay, Captain, stand by.
MCCOY: Boy, you're a real comfort.

[USS Vengeance hangar]

SCOTT: Come on, come on, come on.
(Operational.)
SCOTT: Yes!

[Trash exhaust]

SCOTT [OC]: Okay, okay! I'm set to open the door.
KIRK: You ready?
KHAN: Are you?

[Bridge]

KIRK [OC]: Spock, pull the trigger.
SPOCK: Yes, Captain. Launching activation sequence on

[Trash exhaust]

SPOCK [OC]: Three, two, one.
(The hatch opens, they zoom out and it shuts again in the blink of an eye.)

[Bridge / Space]

ENGINEER: Sir, Kirk is headed for collision at point four three two.
SPOCK: Captain, there is debris directly ahead.
KIRK: Copy that.
(He swerves around it using manoeuvring thrusters in his suit.)
MCCOY: Whoa! Jim, you're way off course!
KIRK: I know, I know. I can see that.

[USS Vengeance hangar]

(Scott is tethering himself to the console when someone points a phaser at the back of his head.)
SECURITY: Don't move.

[Bridge / Space]

SULU: Use your display compass, Captain. You must correct precisely thirty seven point two four three degrees.
KIRK: Got it. I'm working my way back. Scotty, you're gonna be ready with that door, right?

[USS Vengeance hangar]

SECURITY: What are you doing in here?
SCOTT: Wee bit of maintenance on the airlock console. You're big.

[Space]

KIRK: Mister Scott, where are you?
UHURA [OC]: Captain, he can't seem to hear you.

[Bridge]

UHURA: I'm working on getting his signal back. Stand by.

[Space]

(Cracks appear in Kirk's faceplate.)
KIRK: Damn it.
SPOCK [OC]: Captain, what is it?
KIRK: My helmet was hit. Uhura, tell me you have Mister Scott back.

[Bridge]

UHURA: Not yet. I'm still working on a signal.

[USS Vengeance hangar]

UHURA [OC]: His communicator is working. l don't know why he isn't responding.
SECURITY: What is that?
SCOTT: Are you Starfleet or private security?
SECURITY: Show me your other hand.
SCOTT: Because you look like private security.

[Bridge]

SULU: Imminent collision detected.
SPOCK: Khan, use evasive action.

[Space]

SPOCK [OC]: There is debris directly ahead.
KHAN: l see it.
(He dodges some and slams into another piece.)

[Bridge]

SPOCK: Mister Sulu, did we lose Khan?
SULU: I don't know, Commander. I'm having trouble tracking him in all this debris.

[Space]

KIRK: Was Khan hit?

[Bridge]

SPOCK: We are trying to find him now.
SULU: Captain, you need to adjust your target destination to one eight three by four seven three degrees.

[Space]

(The cracks reach Kirk's head's up display.)
KIRK: Spock, my display's dead. I'm flying blind.

[Bridge / Space]

SPOCK: Captain, without your display compass, hitting your target destination is mathematically impossible.
KIRK: Spock, if I get back, we really need to talk about your bedside manner.
SULU: Commander, he's not going to make it.
(Khan's signal returns to the screen.)

[Space]

KHAN: My display is still functioning. I see you, Kirk. You're two hundred metres ahead of me at my one o'clock. Come to your left a few degrees and follow me.
KIRK: Scotty, we're getting close. We need a warm welcome. Do you copy? Do you copy? Scotty?

[Bridge / Space / USS Vengeance hangar]

SPOCK: If you can hear us, Mister Scott, open the door in ten, nine
KIRK: Scotty!
SECURITY: That person counting down, what is that?
SPOCK: Eight
SCOTT: I think you're hearing things, mate.
SPOCK: Seven
KIRK: Mister Scott, where are you?
SPOCK: Six, five
ANDROID: Eighteen hundred metres. sixteen hundred metres.
KIRK: Scotty, where are you?
SPOCK: Three
KIRK: Do you copy, Scotty? Please!
SPOCK: Two
SCOTT: Sorry about this.
SECURITY: About what?
SPOCK: Mister Scott, open the door!
KIRK: Open the door!

[USS Vengeance hangar]

SPOCK [OC]: Mister Scott, now!
(Scott turns and thumps the controls. The hatch opens and the security guard is sucked out, Khan and Kirk fly in, then Scott closes the hatch again. They slide along the ridiculously long hangar bay floor until they stop by Scott's feet.)
SCOTT: Welcome aboard.
KIRK: It's good to see you, Scotty.
SCOTT: Who is that?
KIRK: Khan, Scotty. Scotty, Khan.
SCOTT: Hello.
KHAN: They'll know we're here. I know the best way to the bridge.
(Out of their suits, Kirk assembles phasers and gives one to Khan.)
KIRK: It's locked to stun.
KHAN: Theirs won't be.
KIRK: Try not to get shot.

[Bridge]

UHURA: Commander, I have that transmission as requested.
SPOCK: On screen, please.
UHURA: Stand by.
SPOCK PRIME [on viewscreen]: Mister Spock.
(All hail the real Spock, Leonard Nimoy, 26 March 1931 to 27 February 2015.)
SPOCK: Mister Spock.

[USS Vengeance Bridge]

(Carol is escorted in.)
MAN: Admiral.
MARCUS: I'll deal with you in a minute.
(Carol slaps Marcus, he grabs her arm.)
CAROL: I am ashamed to be your daughter.
(She is taken away.)
OFFICER: Sir, we just had a hangar door open on deck thirteen
MARCUS: Khan.

[USS Vengeance]

SCOTT: They're going to have full power and we're walking?
KHAN: The turbolifts are easily tracked and Marcus would have us in a cage. This path runs adjacent to the engine room. They know they won't be able to use their weapons here without destabilising the warp core, which gives us the advantage.
SCOTT: Where'd you find this guy?
KIRK: It's a long story.

[Bridge]

SPOCK: I will be brief. In your travels, did you ever encounter a man named Khan?
SPOCK PRIME [on viewscreen]: As you know, I have made a vow never to give you information that could potentially alter your destiny. Your path is yours to walk, and yours alone. That being said, Khan Noonien Singh is the most dangerous adversary the Enterprise ever faced. He is brilliant, ruthless, and he will not hesitate to kill every single one of you.
SPOCK: Did you defeat him?
SPOCK PRIME [on viewscreen]: At great cost. Yes.
SPOCK: How?

[USS Vengeance]

SCOTT: I don't mean to tempt fate here, but where is everybody?
KHAN: The ship is designed to be flown by minimal crew. One, if necessary.
SCOTT: One? I
(A crewman is attacked by Khan. Scott and Kirk back away as he is beaten to a pulp, then they have to deal with more attackers.)
KIRK: You all right?
SCOTT: Yeah. Where's Khan?

[Bridge]

SPOCK: Lieutenant, I need you to assemble all senior medical and engineering staff in the weapons bay.
UHURA: All right.
SPOCK: Dr. McCoy, you inadvertently activated a torpedo. Could you replicate the process?
MCCOY: Why the hell would I want to do that?
SPOCK: Can you or can you not?
MCCOY: Damn it, man, I'm a doctor, not a torpedo technician!
SPOCK: The fact that you are a doctor is precisely why I need you to listen very carefully.

[USS Vengeance]

SCOTT: Where is he?
KIRK: Shit.
KHAN: This way.
(He is behind them.)
KIRK: The minute we get to the bridge, drop him.
SCOTT: What, stun him? Khan? I thought he was helping us.
KIRK: I'm pretty sure we're helping him.

[USS Vengeance Bridge]

HELM OFFICER: Power coming online, sir.
MARCUS: Retarget the Enterprise now.
HELM OFFICER: Aye, sir.
(Khan, Kirk and Scott enter, firing. Carol thumps the nearest man. Kirk points his phaser at Marcus, and Scott shoots Khan.)
KIRK: Make sure he stays down.
SCOTT: Excuse me.
CAROL: Yeah.
KIRK: Admiral Marcus, you're under arrest.
MARCUS: :You're not actually going to do this, are you?
KIRK: Admiral, get out of the chair.
MARCUS: You'd better stop and think about what you're doing, Kirk. You'd better think about what you did on Qo'noS. You made an incursion onto an enemy planet. You killed a Klingon patrol. Even if you got away without a trace, war is coming. And who is going to lead us? You? If I'm not in charge, our entire way of life is decimated! So if you want me off this ship, you better kill me.
KIRK: I'm not going to kill you, sir, but I could stun your ass and drag you out of that chair. I'd rather not do that in front of your daughter. You all right?
CAROL: Yes, Captain. Jim!
(Khan leaps up and attacks.)
CAROL: Listen! Wait!
(Khan kicks Carol, making her scream. Then he grabs Marcus' head and squeezes - hard.)
KHAN: You should have let me sleep.
(Crunch! Carol screams.)

[Bridge]

SPOCK: Where is the Captain, Mister Sulu?
SULU: Our sensor array's down, sir. I can't find him.
KHAN [on viewscreen]: I'm going to make this very simple for you.
SPOCK: Captain.
KHAN [on viewscreen]: Your crew for my crew.
SPOCK: You betrayed us.
KHAN [on viewscreen]: Oh, you are smart, Mister Spock.
KIRK [on viewscreen]: Spock don't
(Khan knocks Kirk out.)
KHAN [on viewscreen]: Mister Spock, give me my crew.
SPOCK: And what will you do when you get them?
KHAN [on viewscreen]: Continue the work we were doing before we were banished.
SPOCK: Which, as I understand it, involves the mass genocide of any being you find to be less than superior.
KHAN [on viewscreen]: Shall I destroy you, Mister Spock? Or will you give me what I want?
SPOCK: We have no transporter capabilities.
KHAN [on viewscreen]: Fortunately mine are perfectly functional. Drop your shields.
SPOCK: If I do so, I have no guarantee that you will not destroy the Enterprise.

[USS Vengeance Bridge / Bridge]

KHAN: Well, let's play this out logically then, Mister Spock. Firstly, I will kill your Captain to demonstrate my resolve. Then if yours holds, I will have no choice but to kill you and your entire crew.
SPOCK: If you destroy our ship, you will also destroy your own people.
KHAN: Your crew requires oxygen to survive, mine does not. I will target your life support systems located behind the aft nacelle. And after every single person aboard your ship suffocates, I will walk over your cold corpses to recover my people. Now, shall we begin?
SPOCK: Lower shields.
KHAN: A wise choice, Mister Spock. I see your seventy two torpedoes are still in their tubes. If they are not mine, Commander, I will know it.
SPOCK: Vulcans do not lie. The torpedoes are yours.
(The torpedoes are beamed away.)
KHAN: Thank you, Mister Spock.
SPOCK: I have fulfilled your terms. Now fulfil mine.
KHAN: Well, Kirk, it seems apt to return you to your crew. After all, (they are beamed away) no ship should go down without her captain.

[Bridge]

SULU: He's locking phasers on us, sir!

[Brig]

(Kirk, Scott and Carol are beamed into the brig.)
SCOTT: Let us out of here now!
(Vengeance opens fire.)

[Bridge]

SULU: Shields at six percent!
SPOCK: The torpedoes. How much time, Lieutenant?
WEAPONS OFFICER: Twelve seconds, sir!
SPOCK: Crew of the Enterprise, prepare for imminent proximity detonation.

[Corridor]

SCOTT: What's he talking about? What detonation?
KIRK: The torpedoes. He armed the damn torpedoes!

[USS Vengeance Bridge]

(Multiple KaBOOM!s rip Vengeance apart. Cue Cumberbatch's imitation of Ricardo Montalbán.)
KHAN: Nooooo!

[Bridge]

SULU: Sir, their weapons have been knocked out. Not bad, Commander.
SPOCK: Thank you, Lieutenant.

[Med bay]

(Kirk and Scott run in carrying screaming Carol.)
KIRK: Bones! Bones!
MCCOY: Nurse!
NURSE: l got you. I got you.
UHURA: Doctor Marcus.
MCCOY: Good to see you, Jim.
KIRK: You helped Spock detonate those torpedoes?
MCCOY: Damn right I did.
KIRK: He killed Khan's crew.
MCCOY: Spock's cold, but he's not that cold. I've got Khan's crew. Seventy-two human popsicles safe and sound in their cryo tubes.
KIRK: Son of a bitch.

[Bridge]

SULU: Sir, the central power grid is failing.
SPOCK: Switch to auxiliary power.
ALIEN WOMAN: Auxiliary power failing, sir.
SULU: Commander, our ship's caught in Earth's gravity.
SPOCK: Can we stop?
SULU: l can't do anything.

[Engineering]

(Bang and crewmen fall to their deaths.)
CHEKOV: Sorry! Oh, no. Clear the area!

[Med bay]

MCCOY: Engage emergency lockdown! I hope you don't get seasick.
CAROL: Do you?
MCCOY: Yeah.

[Bridge]

SPOCK: Lieutenant, sound evacuation, all decks.
ANDROID: Aye, sir.
SPOCK: As acting Captain, I order you to abandon this ship.
(Captain' seatbelt is activated.)
SPOCK: I will remain behind and divert all power to life support and evacuation shuttle bays.
COMPUTER: Evacuation protocols
SPOCK: I order you to abandon the ship!
SULU: All due respect, Commander, but we're not going anywhere.
(And puts his seatbelt on too.)

[Corridor]

SCOTT: One day I've been off this ship! One bloody day!

[Bridge]

SPOCK: Gravity systems are failing. Hold on! Hold on!

[USS Enterprise]

(While Kirk and Scott are hanging on by their fingernails to a railing, and other screaming crew plummet to their fates.)
COMPUTER: Attention, all decks. Evacuation protocols initiated. Proceed to exit bays and report to your assigned shuttle.
SCOTT: There won't be time for evacuation if we don't get power to stabilise the damn ship!
KIRK: Can we restore it?
SCOTT: Only from engineering. We have to get back to the warp core.
(The ship turns ninety degrees and they stand up.)
SCOTT: Jim?
KIRK: Scotty, we've got to get the power back on! Come on!

[Corridor]

(Running along the wall, they come to an intersection.)
KIRK: Scotty, we got to jump!
SCOTT: What?
KIRK: Jump! Jump!
SCOTT: Oh, God.

[Bridge]

DARWIN: Emergency power at fifteen percent and dropping.

[Engineering]

COMPUTER: Attention, all decks. Evacuation protocols initiated. Proceed to exit bays and report to your assigned shuttle.
(Falling debris has our heroes hanging on to a railing again.)
SCOTT: Jim?
KIRK: Hold on!
SCOTT: I can't.
(Kirk catches Scott as he drops. The railing starts to bend. Kirk lets go and is grabbed by another hand.)
CHEKOV: I've got you, Captain!
KIRK: Chekov.
SCOTT: Don't let go!
(Safely on a flat surface.)
SCOTT: Even if we get the warp core online, we've still got to redirect the power!
CHEKOV: He's right, Captain!
KIRK: What are you talking about?
SCOTT: Someone has to hit the manual override. Laddie, there's a switch. It;s
CHEKOV: Behind the deflector dish! I'll flip the switch!
KIRK: Let's go!
(Chekov runs up some steps and the ship tilts again.)
CHEKOV: Oh, no.
(He slides, uttering Russian curses.)
COMPUTER: Evacuation protocols initiated. Proceed to exit bays and report to your assigned shuttle.

[Bridge]

SPOCK: Mister Sulu, divert any remaining power to stabilisers.
SULU: Doing what I can, sir. Doing what I can.

[Engineering]

(Chekov finally gets to the manual override and moves the big lever.)
COMPUTER: Core misaligned. Danger.
SCOTT: Oh, no, no, no, no!
KIRK: What?
SCOTT: The housings are misaligned. There's no way we can redirect the power! The ship's dead, sir. She's gone.
KIRK: No, she's not.
SCOTT: Wait, Jim! If we go in there, we'll die! Do you hear me? The radiation will kill us! Will you listen to me? What the hell are you doing?
KIRK: I'm opening the door. I'm going in.
SCOTT: That door is there to stop us from getting irradiated! We'd be dead before we made the climb!
KIRK: You're not making the climb.
(Kirk punches Scott's lights out, then sits him in a seat and activates the seat belt. Then he opens the door to the warp core and heads up the Jefferies tube into another ridiculously large space. Enterprise continues to spiral down to the atmosphere.)
COMPUTER: Danger. Core misaligned.

[Bridge]

SULU: If we don't get power or shields back online, we're gonna be incinerated on re-entry!
(Kirk kicks the huge bottom part of the warp core into alignment as the hull begins to glow read, and sections burn off. The surge of power throws him backwards.)
SULU: Warp core is back online!
SPOCK: Maximum thrusters, Mister Sulu!
SULU: Thrusters at maximum! Stand by! Stand by!
(Enterprise drops into the cloud layer, then rises again, metal groaning.)
MAN: Shields restored!
WOMAN: Commander, power online.
SULU: Mister Spock, altitude stabilizing.
DARWIN: It's a miracle.
(Spock undoes his seat belt.)
SPOCK: There are no such things.
SCOTT [OC]: Engineering to bridge. Mister Spock!
SPOCK: Mister Scott.
SCOTT [OC]: Sir, you'd better get down here. Better hurry.

[Engineering]

SPOCK: Open it.
SCOTT: The decontamination process is not complete. You'd flood the whole compartment. The door's locked, sir.
(For this alternate universe version, it is Kirk dying by the transparent bulkhead door.)
KIRK: How's our ship?
SPOCK: Out of danger. You saved the crew.
KIRK: You used what he wanted against him. That's a nice move.
SPOCK: It is what you would have done.
KIRK: And this, this is what you would have done. it was only logical. I'm scared, Spock. Help me not be. How do you choose not to feel?
SPOCK: I do not know. Right now I am failing.
KIRK: I want you to know why I couldn't let you die. Why I went back for you.
SPOCK: Because you are my friend.
(Kirk puts his hand against the door, and Spock puts his Vulcan salute over it. Kirk moves his fingers to match, then dies. Uhura runs in. Quinto does the Shatner yell.)
SPOCK: Khan!

[Bridge]

(USS Vengeance plummets past Enterprise.)
SULU: God, that was close!

[USS Vengeance Bridge]

KHAN: Set destination, Starfleet Headquarters!
COMPUTER: Engines compromised. Cannot guarantee destination. Confirm order.
KHAN: Confirm.
(The citizens of San Francisco stare at the starship as it smashes Alcatraz to pieces then piles into the city, demolishing skyscrapers.)

[Bridge]

SPOCK: Search the enemy ship for signs of life.
SULU: Sir, there's no way anyone survived.
SPOCK: He could.
SULU: Yes, sir.
(Khan slides to a handy hole in the hull and then jumps to the ground.)
SULU: Whoa! He just jumped thirty metres!
SPOCK: Can we beam him up?
CHEKOV: There's too much damage. I have no incoming signal. But it may be possible to beam you down, sir.
UHURA: Go get him.

[Transporter room]

SPOCK: Stand by for coordinates.
DOOHAN: Yes, sir.

[Bridge]

CHEKOV: Enter three five one seven by two five nine eight.

[Transporter room]

DOOHAN: Coordinates confirmed.
(Spock is beamed down, phaser ready, as Khan grabs an abandoned coat and starts to walks away. He turns, Spock sees him, and the chase is on.)

[Med bay]

(Everyone comes to see Kirk in his body bag. McCoy sits at his desk, then the dead tribble chirps and moves. He checks its vital signs.)
MCCOY: Get me a cryo tube, now!
(Down in San Francisco, Khan jumps onto the top of a garbage scow that is taking off from the streets. Spock grabs the underside and pulls himself up. Khan kicks him and he drops his phaser. They trade punches until Spock does the Vulcan neck grip, which Khan manages to break. More punches.)
MCCOY: Get this guy out of the cryo tube. Keep him in an induced coma. We're gonna put Kirk inside. It's our only chance to preserve his brain function.
CAROL: How much of Khan's blood is left?
MCCOY: None. Enterprise to Spock. Spock!
(Khan is squeezing Spock's skull. Spock tries a mind meld to break free. Khan jumps down onto another garbage scow - no 3562. Spock follows and takes more punishment.)
MCCOY: Activate the cryogenic sequence. McCoy to bridge. I can't reach Spock. I need Khan alive. You get that son of a bitch back on board right now! I think he can save Kirk.

[Bridge]

SULU: Can we beam them up to the ship?
CHEKOV: They keep moving! I can't get a lock on either of them.
UHURA: Can you beam someone down?
(Uhura beams down in time to distract Khan from crushing Spock's skull and fires lots of stun shots at Khan. Spock pulls a small metal cover off something and uses it as brass knuckles to take his revenge on the fallen Khan.)
UHURA: Spock! Spock, stop! Stop! He's our only chance to save Kirk!
(Spock stops, then throws a final punch. Blackout.)

WINONA [OC]: What is it?
GEORGE [OC]: It's a boy. Let's call him Jim.
PIKE [OC]: Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved eight hundred lives. I dare you to do better.

[Starfleet Medical]

MCCOY: Oh, don't be so melodramatic. You were barely dead. it was the transfusion that really took its toll. You were out cold for two weeks.
KIRK: Transfusion?
MCCOY: Your cells were heavily irradiated. We had no choice.
KIRK: Khan?
MCCOY: Once we caught him, I synthesised a serum from his superblood. Tell me, are you feeling homicidal? Power mad? Despotic?
KIRK: No more than usual. How'd you catch him?
MCCOY: I didn't.
(Spock enters.)
KIRK: You saved my life.
MCCOY: Uhura and I had something to do with it, too, you know.
SPOCK: You saved my life, Captain, and the lives of
KIRK: Spock, just. Thank you.
SPOCK: You are welcome, Jim.

[San Francisco Plaza]

(Khan and his seventy two superpeople in their cryo tubes are in a big vault. A big public ceremony is taking place out of doors.)
KIRK: There will always be those who mean to do us harm. To stop them, we risk awakening the same evil within ourselves. Our first instinct is to seek revenge when those we love are taken from us. But that's not who we are. We are here today to rechristen the USS Enterprise, and to honour those who lost their lives nearly one year ago. When Christopher Pike first gave me his ship he had me recite the Captain's Oath, words I didn't appreciate at the time. Now I see them as a call for us to remember who we once were, and who we must be again. And those words?
Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her five year mission, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

[Bridge]

CHEKOV: Captain on the bridge.
KIRK: It's hard to get out of it once you've had a taste, isn't that right, Mister Sulu?
SULU: Captain does have a nice ring to it. The chair's all yours, sir.
KIRK: Mister Scott.

[Engineering]

KIRK: How's our core?
